I snapped this shot out of instinct. I saw it and fired off a few shots with a feeling of spontaneous joy. There is not much to the image but there are a few exciting parts that really draw me. I like the light reflecting in the bus stop, I like the bold negative spaces, I like the person in the distance walking in the opposite direction as the woman in the foreground and I like the contrasting shadows moving horizontally and vertically within the image. As I say, nothing overly groundbreaking but a photo I enjoy nonetheless.
I shot the scene using the in-camera black and white setting and in JPEG. I tend to shoot predominantly in JPEG, I’ve nothing against RAW, I do use it from time to time, but as I am looking to capture as much as I can in-camera and I want to keep my developing/ post-processing time to a minimum I choose to shoot in JPEG. I am always trying to make my life as easy as I can so I can have as much time out with my camera as possible. For editing I heightened the contrast in the image, pushing the extremes between the blacks and white, lights and darks, I added a touch of grain and then I cropped in a little tighter. After all of that, I felt the image was finished and ready for viewing.
