Something a little different from my usual pace. It’s not square, it’s not black and white but it is still what I consider to be street photography.

I have photographed and posted photos from this area before [HERE]. It’s fair to say I am slightly fascinated by the whole scene, mainly due to the incredibly bold, green tree that is growing, quiet unabashedly, in the middle of a very urban landscape. I think it’s this juxtaposition that I find most interesting.

I knew when photographing this scene I want it to be in colour. The overall look of the image is far more effective because of the contrasting colours of the vibrant tree with the more muted or darker tones of the buildings surrounding it. I also like the way the shadows lie, along with the size of the person in relation to her surroundings. She looks half the high of the tree but without seeming out of scale. All in all I think the image works well with an almost cinematic quality to it, certainly an image I am wholly happy with.
